DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Korean entertainment companies or labels invest up to $3 million per trainee? South Korean management agencies hold auditions for trainees and offer them binding contracts most of the time, at a young age. This is to prepare them for their debut and give them more time to perfect their skills including music, dance, and foreign languages. Entertainment companies require their trainees to live together in a monitored environment to make sure they are focused on mastering the skills required in the K-pop entertainment industry which Western media criticized as a robotic training system. Robotic or not, K-pop artists have the strongest fandoms locally and internationally. The popularity of Korean artists like G-Dragon, 2NE1, BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK and a lot more proves that the K-pop wave is continuously growing worldwide.
Aside from K-pop, Korean movies and Korean dramas (TV series) are also making their way to the hearts of international fans. Most popular K-dramas among Internationa fans include Jewel in the Palace, Boys Over Flowers, Coffee Prince, and Full House.
