"My 19 year old cousin from Germany was coming to visit and I thought I'd learn some German to impress her. I downloaded Duolingo and started using the software. It was a game and it was better and more thrilling than Warcraft and Simcity combined. I was fluent in German within 3 days."

"This is a great place for people who like to learn new languages without being taught in another language. They do have some resources for learning German with English, but I don't really like those that much so I can't comment on their quality. For those that just like to jump into the language right away though, this is a good mix of lessons that will get you familiar with the basics very quickly."

"I first learned about Rosetta Stone through my brother in law, who used it to learn my parents' language and surprise them during one Thanksgiving. That was years ago, and he's still retained the language. Since he had such success with it, I decided to use Rosetta Stone to learn German before going there on vacation. I like that it doesn't seem like schoolwork, which bothered me about other services I've tried. "

I need the one on one class with a visual and auditory representation of the language. Using FluentU I was able to watch videos at my leisure and learn German. "Recently I had decided I wanted to learn a foreign language, but wasn't sure where to start. The last time I tried was a required course in high school when I wasn't quite so motivated as I am now. Considering I'm a heavy smartphone user, it seemed like a phone app that I would always have on me would be the place to start. I settled on 'Learn German with Babbel' and I'm glad I did. I was surprised with how much I actually remembered from my old class and was quickly able to find lessons to pick up with what I already knew. The lessons are nice and short so they're easy to sneak in whenever I have a few moments without having to worry about having to stop halfway through. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to learn a language!"

"I was going to be taking a trip to Germany, so I decided I would do my best to learn some very basic German to help me get by. I found Pimsleur and read some good reviews about it, so I decided to give it a shot. It has exceeded my expectations! It was very easy for novice, intermediate, and advanced speakers alike. You can learn at your own pace, and it's kind of fun! It only took me 30 minutes a day, and after that I had a pretty good grasp at some of the simple concepts of the language. When I finally made my trip to Germany, I was able to get a hotel room, order food, and even spoke with some strangers. Although it was obvious that I wasn't a native speaker, I did well. Many people complimented me on my ability to learn so quickly."
