"I love Duolingo! I'm trying to learn Spanish and I login a few times a day and practice my words. There are a ton of language options, including Chinese and you can select different learning modes, such as casual or insane. In my opinion, this is the best language app out there. The format is like a game, so it's not boring."

"If I were going to try and learn Mandarin as quickly as possible, i would probably go with a digital resource like an app. But if it's an old fashioned book you're looking for, Chinese Crash Course is one of the best resources for you. It's a good primer for understanding the language and the basics of how to pronounce things. The only negative for me is that to really understand a language you sort of need to be able to hear it too and you can't get that from a book. Still, with this book you can get comfortable with the basics enough to have some conversations if you practice for a couple weeks. "

"A very solid way to learn a language. I love that it has a very high functioning speech recognition technology, because everyone sounds a little different and this enables the software to respond appropriately to all users. No one has time to go to a class to learn a language, so this is an amazing way to do something you've always wanted to do. "

"They had a nice overview of the culture and did it in an informative and educational way. I was able to learn some mandarin through them but feel like it would have been much easier, had i already know the alphabet before. Program should have more on that or they may lose people in the beginning. "

"Unfortunately I haven't had too much success with this app. It's a bit clunky in how it tries to teach you Mandarin, although it's a decent idea. It's hard enough to learn a language without having to play a game while doing so. "
