"Easily the most important requirement for an author two write a novel is experience. Nobody wants to read anything by some shut in who hasn't lived a day in his life. You gotta get out there and meet people. I use Meetup to find some adventure. Meetup can put you in contact with just about anybody. Wanna go on a bender? Try Meetup. Wanna find some people to go camping with? Meetup."
