"This was such an interesting book that it only took me a day to read it because I couldn't put it down. It is the story of a young girl trying to find out who she is and what she wants out of life and her teacher. I was worried that it might be an inappropriate love story between teacher and student but it really wasn't. I loved this book and will probably read it again. "

"Do we need more books romanticizing student-teacher relationships? Particularly when the teacher is a jerk and the student is an angel? It's the first of a trilogy, so I guess the author did something right, but I can think of so many better ways to spend your precious time."

"I am not into romance, but my wife is. She told me that this book was captivating and intense. It must have been great because I haven't talked to her much in the last few days. The story is supposedly about a girl recovering from a breakup. From her recommendation, get this book now!"

"I'm not sure exactly how large this particular niche is; and this is definitely more a story about survival than romance, but "On the Island" is a truly captivating book that will satisfy any reader. There are many books out there about relationships between older men and younger women in much more scandalous contexts, but this book accurately depicts how relationships can develop when put inside a vacuum and all the uncertainty that comes with it."

"Fresh out of a four month stint in a psych hospital, Jenna starts a new school under the watchful eyes of her parents and school officials. When her chemistry teacher, Mr. Anderson takes in interest in her welfare, she fights off a crush on the attractive, popular teacher and coach. Jenna is an unreliable narrator, but just how unreliable I'm still not certain after finishing DROWNING INSTINCT. Readers are left to determine the extent of Jenna's disturbance, how accurately she perceives the world around her. She's an intriguing, multilayered character, figuratively drowning beneath her father's controlling rage and her mother's alcoholism. Guarded, yet vulnerable, I could easily understand why Jenna was drawn to Mr Anderson, an adult who paid attention and bolstered her esteem. She was easy to sympathize with and root for. Since I only knew the characters through Jenna's distorted views, the minor characters seemed fairly one dimensional, particularly her parents. I didn't know how predatorily Mr Anderson acted. He certainly displayed inappropriate boundaries from the very beginning"

"While this may not necessarily be the type of book I would find myself going out of my way to read, I still can't help but endorse it because this particular novel seems to have a very strong following and is regarded as being very strongly written. I truly appreciate good writing, storytelling, and being able to relate to your characters. "
