"A great romance for young adults, and I should know cause I'm a young adult. I really like that it is not boring, it is exciting, because there is a mystery involved. I also like that they seem like opposites and she has to think about whether she wants to do this, because that's something we all have to do, really. There is also a strong attraction, so it is very romantic."

"I was not a fan of the book personally. But I could see how the younger crowd could be attracted to such tales of danger and romance. Overall a decent read, just not for my age group."

"This book is just not very good. A lot of it is just odd and rambling. Plot points come up out of nowhere. The characters make no sense. Then they just force in a romance plot on top of that. Please don't get young adult readers into books with bad examples like this! There are some great YA and all-ages fiction, and this is NOT one. I'll give it a couple points because a cute angel shows up."

"There are some fantastic examples of diversity throughout this novel, and while we do see those characters struggle through the challenges that come along with that, those obstacles by no means define them. They’re wonderfully well-rounded characters and a true pleasure to read."

"Love Lies and Spies is told in dual narrative between Julianna and Spencer, two characters who were thrown into the dating season against their best efforts. Neither one of them is looking for a marriage, but they each have their own reasons and agendas for being in London. Julianna wants to get her research on the Lady Beetle published and Spencer is a spy for the War Office. I knew this was going to be a romance from the start, but I was very surprised to see just how romantic of a book this was. It made me feel all sappy and warm inside. I think that is part of the magic of a historical fiction book if it is well done. Everything makes it feel more romantic; the flowery over the top language, the setting, the wit and charm of the period- all of it works for me. Cindy Anstey has a fan in me. She impressed me big time with this book. I cannot praise it enough."

"I don't think this is the most well written book out there, but I've been reading a chapter a night to my seven year old who is mad about figure skating and she loves it. Esperanza is a good role model and the book consistently emphasizes her hard work, commitment, and the sacrifices she's made to achieve her goals which I like. The boy drama and mean girl aspect to the story isn't my favorite but it is definitely holding my daughter's interest. "
