"I like fantasy novels in the older styles, full of adventures and romance and chivalry, before they all had to turn gritty and bloody. This one fits the bill, but is also way ahead of its time for having a gay character in the book, something which still to this day is fairly rare in most genres. It's wonderfully written and engaging and a total page-turner, having representations of people we don't often see in books is just a great bonus."

"I don't find this solution to be very good. It does not present anything about the main point of having a gay character nor does it show anything about being a romantic fantasy."

"I was looking for something new to read that was different and a bit modern. usually I read the classics, but I had heard about The Line of Beauty and how it dealt with aids, homosexuality and a vast range of up to date topics. Anyway, the book delivered it's promises, but it wasn't very well written. Although maybe going from Dickens to anything would be a let down."

"Blood Canticle is a pretty cool dive into vampire fantasy that features a gay character. I think that it is unique in some of it's character choice and it kept my interest for a majority of the book. I can't say I was on the edge of my seat, but for a fantasy novel it did feel pretty believable."

"This is a good solution I believe. The word "fantasy" is very loose and open for interpretation and if they're looking for spacey/aliens type of fantasy, then this covers it very well. Many people in the comments of the Amazon reviews believe the sequel is great and worth reading and it has a good overall rating. Not exactly sure how to find what else meets the description of this genre. "

"Kind of okay as a gay romance tale, but the book falls flat in its world building and supernatural realities. The vampires are rather boring and come across as slightly re-skinned humans. In short, it's got the trappings of fantasy, but none of the mystery, or evocative depth a good fantasy needs. "
