DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the lovely green Jedi Master that we came to know as Master Yoda was almost shown on-screen as a real-life monkey in a green mask carrying a cane? Fortunately, one of the crew members on-set who recently worked with apes informed the movie’s producers that “the monkey’s just going to pull of the mask over and over again,” putting a stop to that idea which obviously wouldn’t work. The Star Wars franchise, centered on a film series created by George Lucas, began in 1977 is the release of the movie which was later subtitled as Episode IV: A New Hope. The film was followed by two more successful sequels, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), constituting the original Star Wars trilogy. Between 1999 and 2005, a prequel trilogy was released which received mixed reviews from critics and fans. A sequel trilogy began in 2015 with the release of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (2017).

Regarded as commercial successes, the film series has amassed a combined box office revenue of $8.5 billion, making it the second highest-grossing film series in the world and the top film gross by a sci-fi film series, the latter of which was awarded a spot in the Guinness World Records. The Star Wars hype and success have brought about a variety of related media all ranging from books, console and PC games, and even mobile phone apps.
