"I really thought gogoanime wasn't safe until i went to the site and encountered no popups or anything like that plus it has all the anime I like. The only thing that bugs me is the all-black interface but if your willing to let that pass then cool."

Anime is the English pronunciation of ‘animated cartoon’ or ???. The Japanese use the term to refer to any cartoon because it is a culturally accepted and fairly basic form of entertainment for them. The content of an anime series can be targeted towards one or several age groups. It also covers a multitude of genres such as drama, action, romance, historical fiction, horror, comedy etc.. Outside of Japan, however, anime is synonymous with ‘animation made in Japan.’ It is usually perceived as an animated series or film that has the signature Japanese-style of animation such as vibrant colors, dramatic editing, and over the top facial expressions.

Did you know that anime is more popular now than ever? The once considered niche form of entertainment made its highest sales revenue in 2016 with seventeen billion dollars. The trend may continue with celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Michael B. Jordan and Kanye West promoting their favorite anime series and films. It’s journey to popularity started in the United States in the early sixties. Series like Astro Boy, Gigantor, and Star Blazers debuted in American television in the seventies. However, it did not compare to the popularity of anime on home video. Anime films eventually became available on VHS tapes in the 80s thus introducing viewers to iconic films like My Neighbor Totoro and Macross: Do You Remember Love. Anime returned to cable television in the 90s with channels like Cartoon Network and Sci-Fi. Anime series and made-for-television films brought entertainment aimed at both children and adults. Popular titles at the time were Akira, Dragon Ball and Pokemon. In recent years, anime has become available on streaming sites like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu. It has also contributed to the creation of safe anime sites like Crunchyroll, FUNimation and AnimeUltima.
