"I remember picking up this book when I was in my teens, shortly after the movie had come out, and although I was an avid reader, Crichton's words didn't really seem to grab me too well. I put the book down after a couple chapters. Fast-forward to today, and with the resurgence of the Jurassic World franchise, I decided to give the book another try. Wow! Yes, the first couple chapters were still slow and admittedly boring (although they were necessary for world-building,) but if I had kept on with my reading as a teenager, I would have had a wholly different opinion of the book. A few chapters in, and the action, the internal intrigue, all of that was starting to take shape and began directing the plot, which made the book much more engaging. And, while the movie is definitely based on the book, the book and the movie are different enough that you can enjoy both separately."

"I had seen the movie and wanted to read the book to get more detail on the mystery of The Andromeda Strain. I had read a few books by Michael Crichton but I think this is his best yet. This book is a thriller and you will not be able to put it down. You will follow along with the scientist as they try and unravel the mystery of the strain. Very thrilling and thought provoking book! "I really don't think this qualifies as one of the best sci-fi thriller books. First of all it's not a fiction book and it's not science fiction. It's an interesting read, don't get me wrong, but it's a non-fiction book that deals with small-pox and anthrax and biological weapons. If you're looking for a sci-fi thriller then I would definitely pass on this one. It doesn't fit the bill."

"Warning, this is not as good as the first book. Just getting that out of the way. That doesn't mean that it's bad or that it's not a good read. It's just hard to live up to Crichton's first entry in the series. I liked some parts of better than the first actually. I give like a B+."

"How this is listed under sci-fi thrillers I will never know. It's nothing like star trek, star wars or even the dead space novels. It's little more than a poorly written documentary -like book that is about as far away from sci-fi as the Twilight series is readable. Avoid like cancer."

"The premise of this book is intriguing, and the author manages to create a post-apocalyptic world that is convincing yet familiar. The biggest drawback is I can't make myself care about any of the characters because they aren't developed to be interesting or sympathetic. I also noticed numerous editing areas. Somehow it feels like the whole book was rushed to completion without enough attention to important details."

"Science fiction is my favorite genre for a wide variety of reasons, but Ancient Echoes was not my cup of tea, and it wasn't many other people's, either. It has very mixed reviews for a good reason. The book takes on a more surreal and postmodern approach, apparently having influences from Jungian Psychology, a field I'm not at all familiar with."

"Science Fiction novels tend to leave me either wanting more or boring me quickly. Not so with "The Flicker Men"! The fast pace but believable story line was like reading a movie script of a Hollywood blockbuster in production. I could visualize the action as I was reading it. Just when you think up is up... it's down and twisted hard to the left! "
