"This book focuses heavily on mercenaries in an alternate world and weaves a magical tale about their survival and quests after the death of a cult group of mercenaries. It's not one of the best science fiction books and is more fantasy, which has a lot of strange competition in that genre. "

"I was looking for a good science fiction and fantasy book with mercenaries and was told to look into Beyond Wizardwall (Beyond Series). This is a dark fantasy novel which is cool, but it doesn't seem to be sci fi or have mercenaries like I wanted. Its also the last book in a series, so its hard to jump in at this point. I cannot recommend this book for people looking for this specific genre."

"I am so happy I found this series (and I am talking about the whole series, not just this book) sitting abandoned, in a thrift store. If I hadn't, I would never had the pleasure to meet my favorite flawed hero of science fiction. I flew through this series. Bujold creates an excellent character, that despite his flaws and physical limitations, is able to overcome them and become a very successful officer in the Barrayaran Military. This series of books reminds me of Robert Heinein (just a lot less Stranger in a Strange Land), Frank Herbert (definitely less chanting than in Dune), and the books Elizabeth Moon (GI Jane in space, with Miles as the protagonist instead)."

"Rolling Hot's author is a Vietnam vet so you can be sure to find some good content in this work of fiction. Real life mercenaries are scary enough but adding science fiction to the mix can make the project more so. But we like to root for the underdog so read the book to find out who that is."

"Typically, the title of mercenary elicits the visual of a muscle-bound, bearded gent who throttles everyone with his bare hands. I think Monza Murcatto in Best Served Cold breaks the mold as a female, and therefore somewhat exotic, mercenary. The story itself hinges on the classic motivations of revenge and betrayal."

"This wouldn't be the best science fiction and fantasy books with mercenaries. For one, the reviews are below 4/5, and honestly there are hundreds of science fiction or fantasy books that are much better and also include mercenaries."
