It's already been years since the sitcom Friends graced the screens of American televisions. And ever since then, it revolutionized the landscape for modern sitcoms that couch-potatoes have been watching today. In its time, it was among the most popular TV shows. Even people outside the United States want to know where to watch Friends, given that movies and TV shows are not yet available for online consumption. Then come May of the year 2004, when the impending conclusion of the long-running series nears. Fans were left out of sorts, and are thinking that there will be no other show that can fill the void left by Friends. Now, all of us fans can do is to rewatch all the 10 seasons from video-on-demand services to relive the emotions we felt the first time we watched it. But not for long.
So no one told you that there's going to be an untitled unscripted reunion special featuring all Friends cast? Yup, you read that right! For the first time in a long time, we can see Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry once again share the stage and reprise their roles! Could it be any happier? Indeed, we are in for a treat! However, there's a catch. The said reunion special will be exclusively available on the upcoming American SVOD streaming service HBO Max. We might have to switch our online entertainment content provider if we want to get a taste of it. But for the meantime, why don't we take a look at the best seasons of our beloved sitcom? Sure, there are a lot of websites ranking Friends best episodes, but there were only a few (including me) who dared to rank the seasons. Did I miss something? Let me know what you think of the list below (or violent reactions) through the comment section!
Most of the best episodes of Friends came from the show's fifth season. It picks up after the events of the Season 4 finale where Ross says Rachel instead of Emily at his wedding, and it is also the season where we heard Ross's "PIVOT!" Also, Season 5 established the iconic affair between Monica and Chandler and shown Phoebe give birth to the children of her brother. And the season finale "The One in Vegas Part 2" was arguably one of the best season finales in the sitcom.
Like the series' fifth season, its precedent also had some gems in it. It is also where Phoebe got impregnated with her brother's triplets, which she gave birth in the following season. But we all know it is not the most memorable part of it. For sure, all of us got cracked up when Monica and Rachel lost their apartment in a battle of wits against Chandler and Joey. What is Chandler Bing's job again? But I know it isn't "transponster."
The iconic phrase "We were on a break" was heard first by the audience in this season, and it ultimately becomes a running joke throughout the series. Friends season three showed us that Monica and Ross are both competitive when they battled it out at the Geller Cup. Also, it is the season where Joey hilariously wore all of Chandler's clothes while "going commando." Friends, it is a great reminder that we should not be hiding someone's underwear.
While we mentioned in this list that the other seasons had some of the best episodes of the show, Friends season six had some of the best performances of its cast. Season six gave us the "UNAGI," as well as the one where Ross got high, and the New Year's Eve "routine." And of course, who could forget the heartfelt moment and the tears we shed when Chandler got down on one knee and proposed to Monica?
In season eight, we saw how Rachel struggled with her nearing parenthood. Also, it is one of the seasons where all the characters of the series were given their fair share of the spotlight, unlike the other seasons were only selected ones who shined bright. If it helps, the eighth season won Friends its only Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series and Jennifer Aniston's Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
