DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that there was one Seinfeld episode where Jason Alexander didn't appear? Doesn't sound like a big deal, right? A lot of TV shows out there had episodes without one of their main characters. Remember when Alyson Hannigan took a respite from How I Met Your Mother because she was pregnant? That was one example. But in this case, we kid you not, Alexander nearly curtailed the sitcom's fanfare. Yes, as you all know, the American multi-hyphenate is known for playing one of the most beloved Seinfeld characters, George Costanza. It's also no secret that he bagged six consecutive nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. But even such a seemingly indispensable sitcom character feared that he'd be out of the show.

The one we're talking about was titled "The Pen." It was the 20th episode of the popular comedy show and the third one for its third season. The story follows Jerry and Elaine as they go on a trip to Florida to visit Jerry's parents there. It was also the one where Jerry got an astronaut pen from their neighbor. Does it ring any bells now? Well, you may remember this as one of the best episodes of Seinfeld, but there was actually a great deal of drama in the backstage. This was because Alexander threatened to leave the show after a table-read session, where he found out that the episode only featured the two main cast. He was even quoted as saying, "if you do it again, do it permanently," to one of the show's creators, Larry David. Obviously, he wasn't happy about it.

"Can I just say that Elaine made the scene where jerry was wearing the pirate shirt way more hilarious than it initially was! I thought Kramer made good jokes but I wasn't until Elaine entered that door and started busting out her infectious laugh!"

"You can say that seinfeld is comedic genius just by watching this ep. It's all about m*st*rb*t**on and yet the characters don't resort to cheap euphemisms, and even better, they never mention the word in the episode. Very interesting!!"
