    #1The Wisdom of Insecurity

    The Wisdom of Insecurity
Philosopher Alan Watts shows that it is only by acknowledging what we do not and cannot know that we can learn anything truly worth knowing. In The Wisdom of Insecurity, he shows us how, in order to lead a fulfilling life, we must embrace the present and live fully in the now.

"Great read--don't let the title scare you. This book helped me to relax and allow myself to be vulnerable and human to a greater extent, and to slow down with my endless reaching for more, more, more when it comes to material security. It may seem counter-intuitive, especially in U.S. "culture" (which, to me, is nothing but a bunch of hyped-up consumerism), but it really gave me a chance to actually enjoy what I've got in the present moment."

"There really is something ground breaking about the idea that IQ is a far less important factor in how successful we are in life. It makes total sense if you think about it. Understanding when someone needs a hug or just needs you to get the bleep away from them is a million times more useful than knowing the arc tangent of one or being able to calculate hundreds of digits of pie very quickly. And unlike IQ you can change your EQ (Emotional Intelligence)! Let me just repeat that in Caps: YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR EQ!!! This realization changed my life, not just at my job but with my husband and kids too. Check it out. You won't regret it."

I ended up getting The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and while it is well written, it doesn't really have any good tips that people already don't know. I would recommend looking somewhere else fora Self-help book. This one is not worth it."

A very simple man who was deeply compassionate and simply inspirational. He reminds me of other teachers I've had, that have a strong ability to cut through pretense and distill wisdom to core truths. Read this book slowly and sit with it. If you can cut through your ego (and the pretenses of this world) you will be as free as he was throughout his life. That's the ultimate lesson of any spiritual practice - in my opinion. "

Some say his words are too harsh and it's not a nice book. Me, on the other hand, thinks this book is great. It's filled with such raw passion to succeed and get out there and work for everything. He does say a lot of things that really make you wonder and take a hard step back and look at what's going on with your life. If you haven't already, get this book. Read it. Focus on what he says and go by it. It will change your mindset on everything. "

I think the reviewer was either a bit confused or has fibromyalgia himself as this is simply a fibromyalgia self-help book. For those of us without fibromyalgia it's really not that big of a self-help. Although I'm sure there's more to this book than that and perhaps one could gleam some everyday wisdom from it, it's clearly focused on those with fibromyalgia. I would recommend a great deal of self-help books which apply to everyone before choosing this one, but that's just me."

"This book is not my favorite read ever. It's supposed to be a biography, but it reads more as a fantasy story when we get to the parts in the hospital and the healing. It's nice to have hope and be positive, but I would hate for some cancer patients to think they aren't healing because it's their fault and they aren't working hard enough at it."

"I am definitely not what you would consider to be an actor - I simply love learning everything about movies. I thought the psychology of acting and the effectiveness of certain methods would be an interesting topic you don't hear much about and boy was I happy I bought this book! Normally film books go on about composition and story - which are critical, but who ever thinks about learning the types of acting methods? Stanislavski For Beginners helped put me in the mindset of many actors and it seemed the most natural and real to me. Definitely a must-read if you are interested in film-making in the slightest."
