DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Buzz Aldrin took the first space selfie during the Gemini 12 mission in 1966? That’s definitely a small step for man and a giant step for self-portraits. This was way before taking selfies became a booming trend. Half a century later, everyone seems to be into this lifestyle. In 2013, “selfie” was named The Oxford English Dictionary’s Word of the Year. The basis of this is clear. The usage of the word 'selfie’ in the English language had increased by 17,000 percent that year alone. With the rise of the famous Instagram, people are now taking snapshots of themselves more than ever. As of 2018, Instagram is now the second most engaged network on the internet behind Facebook. The social network boasts of 1 billion monthly active users, 5 million of which use the platform every day.
Whether IG users know how many people would possibly see their shared selfies or not is out of the question. The trend of taking selfies seem to have been reaching peak numbers as of 2019. Data shows that 500 million IG accounts use Instagram stories every day. A lot of these stories contain selfies modified with the best selfie emoji apps and what not. Part of the selfie process is editing and everyone can do this easy nowadays. The best selfie editors are available for every selfie-taker's convenience and amusement. It has been proven that Instagram can generate over 4 times more interactions on Instagram compared to Facebook. With this number, it is not surprising if, in 10 years, even kids would start taking photos of themselves more often and in a more sophisticated way.
