"In "The Man Who Fought Roland LaStarza" a woman’s world is upended when she learns the brutal truth about a family friend’s death—and what her father is capable of. Meanwhile, a businessman desperate to find his missing two-year-old grandson in "Suicide Watch" must determine whether the horrifying tale his junky son tells him about the boy’s whereabouts is a confession or a sick test. In "Valentine, July Heat Wave" a man prepares a gruesome surprise for the wife determined to leave him. And the children of a BTK-style serial killer struggle to decode the patterns behind their father’s seemingly random bad acts, as well as their own, in "Bad Habits." In these and other stories, Joyce Carol Oates explores with bloodcurdling insight the ties that bind—or worse. The Museum of Dr. Moses is another chilling masterpiece from "one of the great artistic forces of our time" (The Nation)."

"Dark, twisted, cruel, and sadistic, this collection of short stories is not for the faint of heart, to say the least. Without spoiling anything, I will say that if you're someone who is disgusted by stories of children in peril, this is not something you should ever pick up. Nevertheless, those who do enjoy horrific and demented feel-bad stories will find Etgar Keret's style to be utterly gripping and engrossing. I think the best way to put it is to think of 80s Stephen King, except with a uniquely Middle Eastern twist. If you've got the heart and the stomach for it, then by all means, give it a look."

"I was pretty interested in a good book with short stories to read in my free time at work, since I have a half hour or so of downtown every couple hours. I had heard about E.M. Forster from a friend and checked out a few short stories of his online, and they seemed alright. I went ahead and got the book and I would say it is very 50/50. Some of his stories are excellent, and I am surprised he is not a more household name because of them! On the other hand he has quite a few stories that are just duds, and about put me to sleep at work, and perhaps that is why I had never heard of him."

"A wonderful collection of short stories about sci-fi, I had no idea this existed until I was looking for some short stories book to read. I was curious and picked it up on a whim and boy am I glad I did. The writing on these stories so elegant and flowing, the stories are interesting and full of human drama along with impossible future scenarios and all sorts of dystopias. It's an excellent book for any fans of sci-fi, short stories or really for any avid readers."

"The Middle-English may seem intimidating at first, but it is easier than one might think to sound out and understand. Of course, the annotation helps quite a bit too. These tales and their frame perfectly capture medieval life with it's lively characters and various settings. Ranging from poetic diversions, to dramatic, to adventures, all the the way to gruesome fables, and plenty of very funny (and memorable) bawdy humor."

I recently read through "My True Love Gave to Me" which is a great collection of short stories. Each story was more engaging and exciting than the last. I loved everything about this collection and highly recommend it to everyone."

I would recommend this to anyone looking for stories that are by a famous author, and enjoys creepy and interesting stories. I often lost track of time while reading the short stories, and wouldn't realize until it was late at night, or I finished the story."

They provide a rich history of not just the state of Montana but the entire American West. I learned so much about this part of Americana that I feel much more knowledgeable about this subject than I have before. Highly recommended."

"This is my favorite Stephen King novel. It's such a dramatic, well-crafted read! If you're looking for a novel, you might be disappointed since it's a collection of stories. I find it to provide a nice change of pace, though, in comparison to what I normally read. Some of the writing seems a bit dated at times, but overall, it holds up nicely to today's issues and environment."

It's clearly ideal for the fan of horror and thriller writing, but also serves as a good introduction to the master's craft."

That is really disturbing because it really took my focus from the stories. I am a very superstitious person and just knowing that frightens me but Yukio could be considered a mad genius in my opinion."

"The Dew Breaker is a book about a quiet man, minds his own business, keeps to himself but he harbors a secret. The book travels between around mid 20th century Haiti to modern day New York. The book's subject has a horrible secret. Love, secrets and delusion help focus this book on how we compromise with history."
