The most talked-about of all the upcoming anime franchises is more often than not shounen. You're probably wondering, what is shounen anime? To most people, "shounen" is just action anime where a bunch of guys (usually in their teens) aims to be the best. But that's where most people are mistaken, 'cause it's much more than that. Shounen is all about fights where the slightest mistake could mean life or death. It's got hints of comedy mixed in every once in a while. Besides that, it's also full of mindless fun adventures sprinkled with a little bit of romance. Contrary to popular belief, shounen isn't a genre, it's a demographic. It covers a lot of solid gold anime that's aimed at young teen boys. It consists of every genre and every level of entertainment there is. Whether it's from the simplest of comedies to the more sophisticated philosophical anime. The best shounen anime is arguably the most popular category in anime. One of the reasons is because it's done a great job in establishing itself with Western audiences. Ever since the beginning with Astro Boy in the 1960s until now. Fans have become more and more fond of stories about young adults who aim to conquer every challenge. With each challenge that they face, they get closer to reaching their dreams. I spend like 2-3hours catching up on the episodes I missed after doing my homework and it is such a good source of laughter.
