Who are the deadliest Spider-Man villains?

Whenever we think about the phrase "rogues gallery," two superheroes immediately come to mind, Batman and Spider-Man. Before anything else, you're probably wondering what does rogues gallery mean anyway? It's the cast of countless colorful characters that show up to make the lives of heroes even more difficult. As unfortunate as it may seem for Spidey, he has the most sweeping, memorable, and compelling set of baddies in the entire Marvel Universe. In any case, Spider-Man villains have never been the focus of any of the past films. Most of the villains trail in comparison to how Joker, Lex Luthor, or even Thanos were highlighted in their respective movies. Even so, the colorful cast of characters in the Spider-Man series always seems to etch themselves into pop culture. The question is, why? First of all, an ideal villain would be someone who challenges the ideals of our hero. Spider-Man's most iconic philosophy is "with great power comes great responsibility." Putting him up against characters who use their powers for personal gain is a great way to play out this concept. At the same time, it makes the villains relatable to the audience. Another reason is the way they interfere with both Peter Parker and Spiderman's life makes for a thrilling drama. This list includes some of Spidey's deadliest enemies from the comics to the films. You'll see some of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse villains that were in the film. You'll also see Spider-Man: Far From Home villains. Whatever the case may be, these are the baddies that our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has to face up against.

  1. 1Venom

    17

Venom has become one of the most iconic enemies of everyone's favorite wallcrawler. It's originally an ancient alien symbiote from the planet Klyntar which attached itself to Peter Parker upon coming into contact with him. Peter eventually drove away Venom's dark influence. Scorned by his rejection, Venom fused with disgraced journalist Eddie Brock who had an equal amount of hatred for Parker. Fueled by his unrelenting hatred towards Spider-Man, Venom is much stronger and far more vicious than Spidey which makes him twice as dangerous.

  1. 2Green Goblin

    12

If there's one villain that could be considered as Spider-Man's arch-enemy, it would have to be Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin. After experimenting with the Goblin Formula, Osborn gained powers but was driven insane at the same time. His arsenal of deadly high-tech equipment mixed with his cold-blooded personality makes him very dangerous. Green Goblin is probably most known for his assault on Gwen Stacy. Still, he wreaks havoc on Peter's personal life more than any other villain.

  2. 3Doctor Octopus

    11

Otto Octavius attained his iconic mechanical tendrils after a failed experiment thus turning him into one of Spider-Man's most cunning enemies, Doctor Octopus. Doc Oct's metallic appendages are very powerful but it's his unmatched genius which makes him even more threatening. He's one of the only villains to succeed in ending Peter Parker, at least technically. He was able to switch bodies with Spidey before his demise and becomes the Superior Spider-Man.

  1. 4Kingpin

    3

Kingpin's greatest strengths are his power as well as his influence. He's renowned as the most influential criminal figure in all of New York. Wilson Fisk pays supervillains to do his dirty work for him while he set his nefarious plans into motion. He might only seem like the brains behind an operation but make no mistake about it, he's no slouch when it comes to fighting. His large frame is built up almost entirely of muscle capable of crushing a man with his bare hands. He's even proved to be too much in combat for the likes of Spider-Man.

  2. 5Mysterio

    3

Mysterio stands out as one of Spider-Man's craziest villains to date wherein he demonstrates an insane theatrical performance. He's a former special effects expert with a proficiency in hypnosis, mind games, hallucinogenics, and illusion-making. Although he's been defeated by Spider-Man many times before, he returned with a vengeance and managed to pull off quite a few disturbing acts of cruelty.

  3. 6Carnage

    3

Even without the Carnage symbiote infused with him, Cletus Kasady is arguably the most deranged individual in the whole Marvel Universe. Kassady's uncontrolled connection with the Carnage symbiote makes him even stronger than the likes of Venom. With his unbelievable power, he goes on chaotic sprees any chance he could get. Spider-Man and Venom even teamed-up just to take him down. But it's one thing to take down Carnage, it's another thing to keep him down that's why he's considered as a constant threat.

  4. 7Curt Connors

    2

Dr. Curt Connors was transformed into a human-reptilian hybrid known as Lizard after his attempt to use reptilian DNA to restore his lost arm. The transformation gave him highly enhanced physical attributes. The interesting thing about him is that Lizard's violent psyche and Connors' human brain are constantly battling. Hence, his two personas are locked in a never-ending power struggle. Eventually, Lizard's influence becomes too strong for Connors to handle even going as far as to devour his own kid. That remains to be one of the most controversial Spider-Man stories ever.

  5. 8Hobgoblin

    2

There have been many characters who have taken on the mantle of Hobgoblin over the years but none are more prominent than Roderick Kingsley. Unlike many of his fellow Hobgoblins, he was an extremely wealthy fashion designer who used the Hobgoblin persona to blackmail and strongarm his competitors. His unique design and personality offers Hobgoblin's identity so much more than just being a cheap knock-off of the Green Goblin. He has no problem brutally dispatching his foes (or even allies) using his extensive arsenal of goblin-themed equipment.

  6. 9Morlun

    0

Morlun is arguably the most prolific Spider-killer in the entire Multiverse. Even Spider-Man himself needed an entire Multiverse of Spider-Totems to defeat him. Morlun comes from Earth-001 and feeds off the energy of Spider-Totems. He jumps from Universe to Universe, defeating each version of Spider-Man there is like it's nothing. This very concept formed the very core of the "Spider-Verse." Spider-Totems wage war against Morlun and his family, "The Inheritors" wherein he lays waste to a lot of Spider-Man incarnates. That why he's by far the deadliest Spider-Man villain of all time.

"I remember watching Spiderman 2 and was thinking who might be the possible villain because Doctor Octavius is too kind to be a villain. Until he got burned in his own experiment. Very good representation of the comic version of Doctor Octopus."
