"I am a sucker for stories about growing up around football. I found Dairy Queen to be one of the best I have ever read. It was absolutely charming. Watching D.J place the future of her family on her shoulders as she learns more about herself was captivating. Anyone can relate to D.J's struggle to find balance between her desires and obligations. "Catching Jordan is indeed a highly rated sports novel, but it adds romance to the mix. If that doesn't bother you, Catching Jordan will be a good option. If you're not wanting much romance, check out some other sports novels. "

"Tangerine is a fictional piece about life in Florida, and various tragic events that befall the city. This is in addition, of course, to school troubles such as joining his soccer team which add complexity. If you've ever read Buffy The Vampire Slayer...it's like that in that weird things just randomly happen to the town (minus the vampires). Overall I thought it was interesting."

"Ann Alma is truly a master writer. But unfortunately, this doesn't cover sports all that well. This is escaping from communism, a kind of coming of age tale as well. A great book, but not one that fits this criteria."

""Gold Medal Winter" is a story that centers around ice skating. Esperanza Flores is an aspiring skater that is learning how much effort and determination it takes to perform well. She is torn in different directions by matters of the heart as well as life in general. This wasn't the most well-written book I've ever read. It is geared towards young adults so it can help them relate with Espi and her struggles."
