"The collaboration between Marvel and Star Wars is almost meant to be. This comic series is fantastic in concept and finished product. The art is mature and pairs nicely with the world already familiar to most fans of the series. While the stories don't veer from the lore, they don't add much to it. All in all, it's a different experience for something old and comfortable. "

"This Darth Vader comic is such a classic, that I read it all the time. It's one of my all time favorites. It belongs in a museum!"

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Darth Vader was supposed to be wearing only a black scarf and not his iconic helmet? Darth Vader is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. He’s one of the most well-known villains in history and an important figure in the Star Wars comic series. The American Film Institute even listed him as the third greatest movie villain in cinema history. When George Lucas and his team of designers were creating Darth Vader, they imagined him in a black scarf to cover his face. But Lucas realized that the villain needed something more remarkable than a scarf to match the character. A simple scarf could not keep him alive and breathing considering Darth Vader’s backstory. That’s when the idea of a helmet began to take place. Ralph McQuarrie designed the helmet as part of Darth Vader’s spacesuit - to allow him to travel in spaceships and be able to breathe. The helmet was inspired from the suit of the samurai in the 1954 movie Seven Samurai. Originally, the helmet would only be worn in space, not as part of the regular costume. But then, Lucas and his team opted to have him wear the helmet full-time to add mystery to the character.

Much of Darth Vader’s history can be found outside the Star Wars films where most people are familiar with. But clues about his strengths and abilities can be found on books, short stories, and the Star Wars comics. The Sith priests used spells to protect Darth Vader’s suit and helmet, making him indestructible as long as he is wearing them. The helmet also scans for threats, giving Darth Vader warning. His helmet’s eye visors also helped him see even in complete darkness after his eyes were damaged on Mustafar. Darth Vader’s mask had to be padded with foam because it was too large for David Prowse’s face, the actor who portrayed Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy

"Although I am a fan of comic books and Star Wars, I was never into Star Wars comics. I don't this will change my mind, though the art is good to excellent, while they story is just "ok". I think it fills in some the prequel movie gaps fine, but I'm not sure those movies really needed anymore filling in. Die hard fans will probably love it (or hate it, depending on which side of the prequels you fall on), others can safely pass."

"Although I love reading Star Wars comics, this issue should not be placed in a "Best of" category. The issue had mostly good praise from the readers, but the number of people that have made a comment is very low. The publication has been out for more than a year and has received less than 100 reviews. This issue would be a good read for someone that loves this character, but should not be one of the best Star Wars comics. "

"I love the old Star Wars expanded universe stuff, but I've only ever read the text-only books - never read any of the graphic novels before. I picked this one up on a recommendation from a friend and it was a great read. The characters are a ton of fun, it brings the adventure and intrigue of the Star Wars universe to life. I definitely think this book benefits from having read the other books before, though, so definitely keep that in mind if you're new to Star Wars, or to the expanded universe. I can imagine a new reader feeling a little lost."
