What are the best Stranger Things Fan Theories for Season 2?

By the end of the first season of Stranger Things, we were left with a lot of questions. Was Eleven connected to the monster? What was that slug-looking thing that Will coughed up? What's the story behind Hopper and his daughter? With all those questions floating about, fans have nothing else to do than to think of their own Stranger Things theories. Plus, seeing as how the Netflix show is extremely popular, there has been a lot of speculation about Stranger Things Season 2. That's why we did our very best to choose the best ones. If you've caught the Stranger Things fever and just can't get enough of it, then check out these awesome fan theories. We're sure that some of them would surprise you!

  1. 1Eleven is the Demogorgon

    35

Even Eleven said it herself in the sixth episode of the season, "The gate. I opened it. I'm the monster." After defeating the Demogorgon, she suddenly disappeared. We eventually find out in a teaser clip for the following season that she wound up in the Upside Down. But, what does it mean exactly? Are they somehow connected? There's been some speculation online that the Demogorgon could be a projection of Eleven's subconscious. Probably because the first time she saw it she was in a 'deep psychic state.'

  1. 2The Upside Down is Hawkins' future

    33

You may have already heard it a bunch of times during the show but what is the 'Upside Down' exactly? Well, here's one pretty simple fan theory: It's not another dimension, it's actually Hawkins' future. Woah that's crazy, right? The idea is that somehow, Eleven tore a hole in the space-time continuum. Because of this, it allowed bits of a potential future to flow right into Hawkins creating a time-loop. So basically the future that she's seeing is Hawkins after the U.S. government nuked it to destroy the giant mutant creature and the Upside Down.

  2. 3Only Eleven can stop Monster Will

    21

This could in fact be the biggest showdown that you've all been wait for! From a narrative standpoint, it just makes sense. Still, if it is true that Will has been taken hostage by the monster of the Upside Down then there's only one person who could stop him and that's Eleven. A showdown of epic proportions is the only way this could go. Then again, there's also the possibility of them trying to figure out how to deal with their dark, conflicted natures together. No matter what happens, it's definitely something to look forward to.

  1. 4Will Byers is part monster now

    17

We already know that Will is a focal point in the second season. Towards the end of the first season, we see Will coughing up weird slugs after returning from the Upside Down. That's a pretty obvious sign that he hasn't fully recovered yet. Plus, he could even be part monster himself. Another belief that's spreading online is that his slug-coughs mean that he could be a conduit for monsters to get into Hawkins. With the lines so blurred between the real world and the Upside Down, he could bring in even more creatures and not just the Demogorgon.

  2. 5Hopper has been working for the government

    16

Fuel was added to the fire of this fan theory when Hopper was seen stepping into a car with a couple of bad guys from the lab. Back then, he made a deal with them to keep their evil secrets on the down-low in exchange for Will. Some fans believe that he's infiltrating the secret organization to take them down. While others think that he's reuniting with them after a long absence as a federal agent. With all these speculations floating around, it's hard to tell which is which. But, the Duffer Brothers themselves have hinted that Hopper may be helping cover up the events of the first season.

  3. 6Hopper's daughter is actually Eleven

    15

Now, you could say that this theory is a bit of a reach but there have been some who've made a compelling case for it. It follows hints during the first season that Hopper's memory of how his daughter died isn't really what it was. According to him, his daughter Sarah dies because of cancer but what if it's just a lie that he tells himself? Not to mention, the timeline of what happened to his daughter matches fairly well with the timeline of what happened to Terry Ives (Eleven's Mom).

"This theory does seem to make quite a bit of sense considering that many aspects of the series is quite confusing. The author might be onto something as the up-side down theory could explain why some of the people they encounter are potentially descendants of themselves. Eleven does seem to have some pretty crazy interesting powers that have yet to be fully acknowledged in the series so I wouldn't be surprised that she probably got so angry, her sub-conscious may have ripped a tear into the time space continuum creating a possible future alternate reality."

"Theories like this seem out of place. Stranger Things has a lot of people speculating stuff like this but I think people are missing the point of the story. Duality is the biggest theme in the show. There are supposed to be some plot points that parallel each other. I mean, this is a show about a parallel dimension. Why do some of these theories feel the need to make everything so literal? By the end of the first season, you get to know Hopper's history with his daughter. His arc"

"This is an excellent example of a fully fleshed-out fan theory for the upcoming second season of Netflix's hit show "Stranger Things." The theory posits that the "Upside Down" the kids are able to visit is perhaps a full of the town's holocaustic future. The author of the article offers strong proof for how the theory could be true, offering up examples from the show to back up their theory. All in all, this is an excellent example of a fan theory for the show."

"Stranger Things is my favorite new show. It's so crazy and mysterious that I can't get enough of it. I love coming up with my own theories, but I also love hearing everyone elses. The problem is, I don't have any friends near me that watch it. So, I came here looking for fan theories from other people like me. I was given the theory that Eleven could be both Jane & Sarah. I had never even contemplated this. I sat around mulling this over for an hour."

"Part of me thinks Planet Calvin is really onto something with this one and part of me thinks he's reaching in ways that put me in critical mode where I just want to pick apart all the flaws in it. Personally, I am at the point where I think he's someone that you either think he's really picked through the details and pieced things together or thinks he's just throwing things at the walls and justifying them later. Definitely the latter for me."

"While I give the writer an A for effort I really have no idea how this is supposed to work, it is so hand wavy and contradictory that I honestly feel like if it was true it would actually ruin the show. I know this is a show that begs to think outside the box when guessing what is going on but this manages to be inside of a lazier shows predictable box and crazy wrong at the same time."

"As much as I like Uproxx and the production quality they put into this video I found it a waste of time considering that they are trying to argue one of the themes of the show is a fan theory. I mean I guess this is good if you didn't pay attention when watching it but if you're a fan of the show you should know this already."

"I really want to like this theory but it feels like it relies to much on coincidences to work. The video itself could really use some trimming down and editing. I honestly kept zoning out while watching it because it just slowly meandered on to its point even though everything had sound logic to it."

"This is a theory I hope they explore in season 2, it makes perfect sense to me. It does a good job of explaining why the monster took Will using off handed comments feels like something that they put in subtly to build to it later, or it could be coincidental."

"This is certainly not a bad theory on what will happen on Stranger Things in Season 2, but this also isn't the most original theory either. I think at least half of what this says is stuff that you've likely thought would come to pass in Season 2."
