Did you know that playing Tetris can help get a person's brain cortex thicker and increase its efficiency? This is according to a BMC Research Notes study which was published in 2009. Wikipedia defines Tetris as a tile-matching puzzle video game which is designed and programmed by a Russian computer software designer Alexey Pajitnov. This game was created in 1984, and according to Wikipedia, this is the first entertainment software from the Soviet Union which was exported to the United States. Since Pajitnov's favorite game is tennis, he came up with combining the word "tennis" and the Latin word "tetra", thus, forming the word "Tetris". According to Live Science, Tetris is also the first video game that had been in space. Live Science claims that it was in 1993 when a "Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Serebrov brought his Nintendo Game Boy and Tetris cartridge aboard the Soyuz TM-17 rocket on a Russian mission to the space station Mir." Because of the popularity of this game, this is also considered as the first known mobile game. According to Nick T. in his article posted on Phone Arena website, it was in 1994 when a device called Hagenuk MT-2000 featured a gaming capability, and the phone brand chose Tetris since the game was popular back then. Meanwhile, smartphones also have Tetris apps for users who love to play Tetris. One of the most popular Tetris games that can be downloaded on Apple App Store is Tetris.
