The Witcher hit Netflix on December 20, 2019. Since its release, it's become one of the most in-demand streaming series. As per Parrot Analytics, it's even passed The Mandalorian as the top show in the world the week of December 22nd to 28th. This is huge seeing as The Mandalorian had just dethroned Netflix's Stranger Things. Henry Cavill returns to shock the world. Only this time, he doesn't have a cape. Henry plays Geralt of Rivia, a mutant warrior referred to as a "Witcher." Throughout the series, he meets minstrels, mages, and royalties. He does all this while fulfilling his quest to slay monsters and search for his "Child of Surprise." The show has been met with mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. With four separate timelines alternating with each episode, it can be hard to keep track of what's going on. Especially for fans who haven't read the books or even played the games. still, the show does it's best to keep the audience entertained. More so than we initially hoped for. Episode three consists of all three timelines of the show's main characters. Geralt is off to hunt a vukodlack who has killed a few villagers including a witcher from the Wolf School. Yeneffer, on the other hand, faces graduation in Aretuza. Her dream of ascending into a full mage is within her reach only that her transformation comes with a price. Lastly, Ciri hears a mysterious voice and is drawn into a forest. Each storyline highlights what the series is all about: hunting monsters, mages coming to fruition, and the never-ending twists and turns that come about when you least expect them to.
We finally get to see Geralt meet Yeneffer for the very first time. Geralt and Jaskier find a Djinn but Jaskier gets injured in the process. They both seek the help of a mage and lo and behold they stumble upon Yeneffer's territory. Everything goes well until Yen finds out that they acquired the services of a Djinn which she wants to capture for herself. The episode is considered great because it's the beginning of a long-lasting, occasionally tumultuous, relationship.
Paths cross yet again and revelations come to light in The Witcher's fourth episode. Geralt of Rivia heads to a ball accompanied by none other than Jaskier. Cirilla comes across a dangerous new ally while Yeneffer forges her own path. This episode introduces "The Law of Surprise," that which you already have but do not know. It's a law that is usually called upon to negotiate a payment between a hero and a patron they have saved from certain death. It's here that the main through-line of the series is unraveled before our very eyes.
No one could have asked for a better series opener. In the very first scene, we're treated to Geralt of Rivia fighting against a kikimore-a huge, insect-like creature. After it's defeated, we can see a close-up of the witcher, eyes black, skin pallid, and an intense look of aggression. In this episode, he's eventually caught up in a woman named Renfri's quest for revenge. Meanwhile, Cintra wages War against the forces of Nilfgaard who slowly starts its siege. To sum it all up, it's an awesome preview of what you could expect out of the whole series: monsters, hard-hitting action, and non-stop adventure.
It's been a long journey for all three of our heroes: Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Cirilla. Yet, they face their toughest challenges in the eighth and final episode of the season. Yennefer along with 60 other mages prepare for battle as they face Nilfgaardians who are plotting their advance on the North. Geralt of Rivia is bitten by a ghoul and wakes up to find himself being carried on the back of a wagon by a merchant. As he's taken the merchant's farm, it's there where he crosses path with the person that's he's been looking for since the beginning of the season. It's none other than Princess Ciri.
