There are plenty of other self help books out there that are geared more towards depression. I would've suggested Dr. David Burns book 'Feeling Good' before suggesting this one. "

I deal with depression and sometimes I just do not have the words to explain to my 6 year old that daddy is sad all the time. This book does a well enough job to at least get the conversation going in a way that is suitable for a child to grab the basic gist of the matter. It has helped me and my son. "

This book was insightful, but it is really specific with respect to what it addresses, namely music's affect on the brain. There are better options out there for people struggling with general depression, as the therapies in this book or music focused and not relevant to all situations."
