DID YOU KNOW?
Got stuck in traffic for an hour or two? If it makes you feel better, did you know that the longest traffic jam in history lasted for 12 days? It sounds crazy but this terrific congestion in Beijing stretched up to 62 miles long. Known to be one of the most saturated countries in the world, China was dubbed to be the mother of all traffic jams on August 13, 2010. The ultimate cause of the spike in traffic? The heavy trucks that were headed to Beij ing. To be at least fair, the Beijing-Tibet Expressway where the phenomenon happened was initially dedicated to be used by trucks exclusively. But unfortunately, due to the influx of vehicles, passenger cars started to utilize the said highway. Anyway, on the day of August 13, a huge number of vehicles were traversing the route, alongside trucks that were loaded with construction supplies on the way to Beijing for road work. Hence, a 12-day traffic jam.
Consequently, studies show getting stuck in traffic results in an unfortunate case--the traffic stress syndrome. It is a case where drivers became anxious when they find themselves in the middle of slow-moving traffic. The worst result? Reckless driving, making them press the throttle, leading to vehicular accidents on the road. The most common symptom of this is excessive sweating of the hands. One step of getting away with traffic jam is having the best traffic apps that could help you find an alternate route. Another one is by leaving your car at home and take a carpool instead, or of course, commuting and taking mass transits.
