"It is good to have a language translation app on my iPhone, as I plan to travel to Europe this summer. My foreign language knowledge is extremely limited, and it will be good to be able to find language translations by using my own device. That way, I won't have to bother other people very often, while finding my way around!"

"I once played that Nintendo game where you sing into the mic and it rates your singing. Someone dropped the mic on the couch, and it kept rating, like there was still singing. That was more accurate than Speak & Translate. I could have simply belched into it, for the same effect."

"This is indeed a decent app for translating some of the popular languages. It has a very easy to use interface that is similar to Google Translate, and the translate button is embedded into the keyboard itself once you install this app. The only problem, however, is that amount of languages that is supported by this app. I counted only 12 supported languages, and that may not be enough to satisfy the need of certain users."

The word ‘translation’ comes from a Latin term which means “to bring or carry across”? Another relevant term, ‘metaphrasis’ which means “to speak across”. From this, the term ‘metaphrase’ was born, which means a “word-for-word translation”. Translations started out as early as the Mesopotamian era. It was when the Sumerian poem, Gilgamesh, was being translated into Asian languages. Ancient Greek texts were also translated by Roman poets. They were being adapted to create developed literary works for entertainment. The knowledge and findings of Greek academics were also translated by Arabic scholars. It's debated that the knowledge was further developed and understood well due to them.

The Industrial Revolution made it possible to introduce new machinery. These allowed for swifter production of texts and business-related materials. More time for translating material to enter foreign markets was possible. The rise of the Internet built upon this made it even easier and more accessible. Modern translation apps and techniques using smartphones are so easy to use. Google Translate is one of the many translation apps available in the market. It's considered as the best translation app for the iPhone for most users. Camera translators have also gained some popularity, especially with travelers. It allows you to scan a text and have it translated in real time. Translation has come a long way in helping bridge the gap and tear down the language barrier.

"Until the day we have universal translators in our brains (ala Star Trek), we have to rely on translation apps. SayHi is a decent one, though still room to be improved. It has a wide range of languages it can translate, but as with any translation, there are times it just misses the mark on what's said. So best to use this as a starting point, and take the translation with a grain of salt. "

"Google Translate is a great app that I use almost daily. I work in support and sometimes I will get a message from a non English speaker. I use the app to quickly decipher what the person is saying and relay a message back to them. The app translates the language accurately and I am able to understand. The camera feature to instantly translate objects in the world is also cool and I used it to translate a Spanish restaurant sign. It would be helpful if you were in another country. Google translate is on the iOS so check it out as it is the best translation app around. "
