"This book came later in the paranormal romance boom. Fortunately Armentrout is a fairly good writer. It's not just a ripoff. It's the beginning of a good series."

"Generally, I don't like love triangles as plot hooks. But with the heroine struggling with her half-demon, half-gargoyle nature and the choice of partner I found this a pretty intriguing read. It's aimed at the young adult market, and I feel it lacks some sophistication and depth. But overall a fun read."

"Urban Fantasy books seem to regularly feature gargoyles, so that isn't limiting what qualifies in the category. House of Cards is a good book and The Negotiator is a good series, but the storytelling isn't rich enough to be considered among the best."

"This is a good fantasy book about a lawyer and her gargoyle lover, that has been imprisoned, making negotiations after a war has broken out. Her allies are a dragon and a vampire, but with her gargoyle lover being imprisoned, it's hard to make negotiations that will end the war in New York City. I thought this was a pretty good read for a fantasy book and how it deals with different beings but a lawyer trying to negotiate to end a war might not be the best solution to end it."
