DID YOU KNOW?
Before Counter-Strike became a staple first-person shooter game, did you know that it initially started as a mod for Half-Life? Developed by the game company Valve, Half-Life is also a multiplayer battle FPS video game, but unlike Counter-Strike, it is fast-paced. This is the very reason why Minh 'Gooseman Le was inspired to create a mod for Half-Life. But of all games, why Half-Life? Le simply answered that he had so much personal interest in the theme--the conflict between terrorist and counter-terrorist. Moreover. he emphasized the special need for a more realistic setting for the game he had on his mind. And at that time, Half-Life was the closest to what he envisioned. With all honesty, according to Le, he did not anticipate that the mod would be played by thousands of players after the release. He did not have big plans for the mod. He thought it was going to be just another mod added to his collection of 2 others.
You know what's more interesting? Le was working for Barking Dog Studios, also a game company, when Valve--yes, THE VALVE-- showed up on his doorstep to tell him personally that they want to work with him. Insane right? Yet, perhaps, one of the main reasons why Counter-Strike has become a superstar in the gaming parlance is because it was made with and for the community. Le humbly said he owes the success of the game to his partner, Cliffe, and the community. Next stop: Half-Life 2!
