Six years after its publication, Doctor Sleep has finally got a film adaptation, and Stephen King has given the green light! The journey was not easy but we can thank the incredible success of another King novel movie adaptation, the film IT, for it. The Shining, as great as it was, had some discrepancies with the novel. Flanagan has said that this film would try to reconcile these differences. The new horror film is set several decades after the events of both the film and the novel. Okay, for those who don't know, King has heavily criticized Kubrick's adaptation of his novel many times. Of all the film adaptations of his novels, The Shining is the one he didn't like. Flanagan explained that audiences are more familiar with Kubrick's version of The Shining than King's. In fact, some even claim that they preferred the film to the novel. This is the reason he cannot completely veer away from the cinematic universe that Kubrick established.
