Harley Quinn (a.k.a Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel) is a fictional supervillain character appearing in the DC Comics universe. That character was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. She first debuted in Batman: The Animated Series back in September 1992 and was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, her alter ego, is a psychologist that works at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum. She falls in love with the Joker and inevitably becomes his accomplice and on-and-off love interest/girlfriend. She follows in the Joker's clown-themed, criminal antics and adopts the name, Harley Quinn. It's a play on the name "Harlequin", a character which originated in commedia dell'arte.
Outside of Batman and Joker, Harley Quinn has teamed up with other villains such as Catwoman and Poison Ivy on many occasions. The trio is known as the Gotham City Sirens. Poison Ivy, in particular, is a close friend and ally of hers and is even depicted as her girlfriend in some comic book stories. After appearing in the Batman: Animated Series and various appearances, Harley Quinn finally gets her own animated TV show. DC Universe debuted the Harley Quinn animated series online through its streaming service on November 29, 2019. It will initially be consisted of 13 episodes and is voiced by Kaley Cuoco in the titular role. This is kind of a big deal for Harley Quinn fans as this is the first time that she has had her own standalone series. You wanna know who the woman is? Well, get ready: it's Poison Ivy. Okay, we know what you're thinking: Screw Joker. We're totally shipping Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy now!
To all DC Comics die-hards out there who have read comic books featuring Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, you're probably not surprised anymore. But for the sake of those who were totally caught off guard by this, let us give you more proof they're girlfriends. These two Gotham villainesses were first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series and have shown to have a soft spot for each other since. Not just in one DC comics, film adaptation, or TV series episode, but in plenty of them. One of the juiciest and most intimate of all is when the two kissed each other under the moonlight. Sure, this only happened in DC Comics Bombshells where all superheroes are women. Yet, you have to admit, you're also lowkey wishing it could happen in a live-action film. Another one is when they got married in Vegas. This was revealed in Injustice 2 #70, the prequel comic for the video game Injustice 2. Sadly, those who have played it know that it didn't really last. Still, what do you think of this pair? Let us guess, you're excited to watch Harley Quinn series, just in case their ship sails. Well, we are, too!
