Nowadays, rare pairs are slowly becoming popular. Take for example popcorn and hot sauce, cream cheese and jelly sandwich, or war and zombie movie. Okay, that may have escalated quickly but essentially, that is what the 2018 war horror film Overlord is about. Produced by J. J. Abrams and directed by Julius Avery, Overlord is not your typical zombie movie. To get your bearings calibrated, think about Saving Private Benjamin versus a hoard of a super-powered zombie army. Can you picture it clearly now? If that didn’t help, maybe I should just tell you that Overlord is set in the D-Day, or the day in World War II on which the Allied forces invaded northern France which signifies the start of the Battle of Normandy. This is pretty much a historical war film but with an undead twist.

The story follows several American soldiers tasked to take down a radio tower built in a castle of an old French town. What was supposed to be an easy task turned gore as the soldiers found a Nazi secret lab nearby. It turns out that the Germans have been experimenting with corpses and developed a secret serum that can turn the dead into a super-powered zombie. Isn’t that peculiarly interesting?
