The inspiration for his visual novel game is his encounter with a beautiful girl on the streets. Tomoya decides that the girl he saw will be the main character (MC) of his visual novel. Although he later learns that the muse for the MC of his Otome game is his unnoticeable female classmate. In the title of the anime, the visual novel MC is the "boring girlfriend". The name of his classmate and the heroine of his visual novel is Megumi Kato. Tomoya forms a team of creatives also known as his female classmates to bring the visual novel to life. He recruits characters Eriri and Utaha. Together, they will give Megumi Kato a virtual makeover. Saekano: How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend follows the team as they complete the visual novel. What gives Saekano an element of romance is the harem present in the anime. The girls in Tomoya's team sometimes fight for his love and affection. Saekano was originally based on a light novel by Fumiaki Maruto which ran from 2012 until 2017. The anime adaptation of Saekano aired from January 9, 2015, until June 23, 2017. Saekano: How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend currently has two seasons.
