DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Selena's family still markets her even after death? In fact, the Quintanilla family has since then been tied up on TV deals, a makeup line, and other merchandise with Selena's brand on it. This still continues to this date, decades after the famous Latina icon passed away in 1995. Known for her beautiful voice and flashy stage outfits, there is more than meets the eye for this pop icon. For starters, Selena's influence can never be measured by the number of hits she had produced, nor can it be judged by the awards she won. The fact that she has influenced a whole generation of Hispanic people around the globe makes her a true icon. She is known to be responsible for bringing 'Tejano music' into the mainstream at a time where such feat was almost impossible to achieve.
One other Latina that has made good use of Selena's status is none other than Jennifer Lopez. In 1997, JLo took her claim to fame as she took on the main role in the self-titled 'Selena' biopic. This role has earned her $1 million as well as a Golden Globe nomination for that year. What is more amazing is that Selena’s posthumous English-language album, Dreaming of You, earned a total of $6 million. It also has sold over 200,000 copies the day it was released. One can conclude that Selena is a brand herself as items with her face on it seems to reflect her pretty smile. Her posthumous success will be tested once again with the upcoming Netflix Selena series. It wouldn't be surprising if lead actress Christian Serratos takes this as her crowning moment as the next favorite Hollywood actress. It also might just be a matter of time before this project joins the list of the best Netflix shows created.
