DID YOU KNOW?
India is one of the oldest civilizations on Earth that goes back to more than 7000 years ago? India is practically a sub-continent of Asia that is divided by the Himalayan mountains with its own long and rich history. That history though has seen a lot of wars and battles fought among itself. In fact, it's estimated that there could have been anywhere from 16 to more than a hundred kingdoms that have existed throughout its long history. Each one making and breaking allegiances, fighting it our, and vying for control over territories. Indian soldiers have even been enlisted to help fight other wars as was the case during WWI. This was when Britain enlisted half a million Punjab soldiers to fight in its war.
It is no surprise then, that this long and violent history has been depicted or has inspired various films in Indian cinema. Some films were Mangal Pandey: The Rising, which was about the 1857 mutiny and the fight against British rule. Another is a film called Ashoka the Great which about the life of the Maurya Dynasty's Emperor Ashoka. The list goes on and on with some pretty interesting historical stories to know about. We have yet another potential great warrior movie with Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. This time, it's a movie about the life of Tanaji Malusare, the military leader of the Maratha Empire.
