Get ready to flail in excitement! Because Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are finally reunited! They have teamed up for the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. If you don't know yet, they first worked together after meeting on the set of Friends back in 2000. And now they are once again working together for The Morning Show. The comedy-drama web television series is based on Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning released in 2013. Interestingly, it would be titled Morning Wars in Australia, in order to differentiate the show from the Australian morning talk show of the same name.
Basically, the show will look into the lives of TV hosts on a morning show that is clearly based on The Today Show (duh!) and the sexual harassment allegations against Matt Lauer (Well, obviously!). Based on the trailer, Steve Carrell will play the sort-of-maybe Lauer character. Meanwhile, Aniston stars as his former co-host and Witherspoon is the new talent vying for Aniston's job. It will also star Nestor Carbonell, Billy Crudup, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Mark Duplass. So we are definitely looking at some serious star power of the show.
Not only is the premise of the show looks highly exciting, but it would also be the much-anticipated return to the small screen of Aniston. Although many fans are eager to see Aniston in a series again, a few are upset that the show will not be on a widely-utilized platform or even a cable TV channel. In fact, fans will only be able to watch The Morning Show on the new Apple TV+ streaming service, which costs $4.99 per month. Good thing though, there is an option to watch The Morning Show for free. Yes, you read that right! You can just get the one-month free trial of the streaming service to watch The Morning Show.
Did you know the salaries of Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston on The Morning Show are huge? Yeah, they are making so much for being part of the show. Apparently, Apple TV+ has put down an enormous amount of money into making the show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show costs $15 million per episode. This totals $300 million for two seasons consisting of 10 episodes each. THR also reports that the overall spending for the show each episode matches the cost for Apple's sci-fi drama See. Moreover, Witherspoon and Aniston will each get $2 million per episode, with a $40 million total for two seasons. In fact, their deals are said to be even higher with producing fees and ownership points, as per THR. Not that Aniston and Witherspoon are in need of money. But, the stars' salaries are a big difference from what they have been receiving on other television shows. Aniston earned $1 million per episode on the show "Friends" until its last seasons in 2004. As a matter of fact, she receives $20 million per year, all because of friends. On the other hand, Witherspoon earned $1 million per episode on HBO's "Big Little Lies." And in case you missed it, HBO fixed its gender pay gap. Thanks to Witherspoon! She was instrumental in HBO's pay parity assessment to end existing pay disparities at the network.
So it looks like the show would be amazing if Apple TV+ was willing to spend this much on it. Plus the plot sounds interesting. Basically, it will take us into the lives of TV hosts on a morning show which gets engulfed in a scandal. Needless to say, this is a huge gamble for Apple.
