"Craig Johnson is one of the best mystery writers to ever breathe. The way the story is written in this book will leave you turning pages way beyond your bed time. Also, the way the setting is explained, it puts you directly in the story."

"As the Crow Flies is a rare example of modern Western mystery style books done right. It has a feel of the old story styles used in Western's a long time ago but in a more modern way. It feels like being in a timewarp of sorts while maintain a more modern writing style and tone. A must read in my opinion for western fans."

"While this is a great book, it's the second in the series. I'd strongly suggest starting with the first book, "The Blessing Way" by Hillerman. It'll introduce you to the characters and sets up the world which gets continued in the "Dance Hall of the Dead.""

"This was a good mystery, but it felt very dated. It was originally written in 1928...so not too modern there. I liked it, but it doesn't quite hold my interest as much as more recent things tend to. The older style and technology however was refreshing."

"Sometimes the old style westerns are best, and Blood Will Have Blood certainly fits. I was recovering from my surgery and this was the perfect book to read: doesn't make you think at all, just a nice straight-forward good vs evil detective story happening in the west."
