Thanks to the popular messaging app, there are dozens of WhatsApp movies group to join so you can find where to watch the latest blockbusters and hit television series. But did you know that the app would have died out before its release had it not been for the introduction of push notifications? It’s true, this simple feature on every phone saved what would become one of the most used voice-over-internet-protocol services. In 2009, one of the two founders Jan Koum wanted to stop developing the app and look for a stable job because WhatsApp kept crashing or lagging in phones. Pardon the pun. but Apple’s launching of push notifications in the same year gave Koum and his partner Brian Acton the necessary push to keep working on the app and they saw general interest soar high within months. In October that year, Acton and Koum got significant funding for the support which allowed them to develop the app for different platforms, including the then-in-demand Blackberry phones.
Not giving up and then finding success later seemed to be a repeating story for both Koum and Acton, and they seemed to have been fated even before they met. Both were former Yahoo! employees, and both applied and got laughed out of Facebook. When they got together and worked on WhatsApp, they both saw moral victories over Facebook when the social media giant acquired their app for $19 billion! The sale made the partners billionaires and Koum was made a managing director in Facebook. So, the next time you want to use WhatsApp for finding torrent sites and download links for movies and TV series, better thank these two for not giving up on this application!
