Would you agree that Pokemon will never be off the table? Like, different generations passed by, from Pokemon Red and Green to Yellow and Blue, from Pokemon Gold and Silver to Crystal, to Pokemon Ruby to Sapphire to Emerald. Fast forward to the latest generation, the Pokemon Sword and Shield. And just like the legendary Pokemons, the franchise as a whole, including video games and movies, was able to withstand the test of time. Of course, who would forget the 2016 augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO that took the whole world by storm? It's just amazing to think that since the media franchise's inception in 1996 until today, it has never stopped satisfying our desire to 'catch 'em all'.
And more often than not, if you have been a Pokemon fan since the 90s, you were able to watch Pokemon: The First Movie in 1998. Its title literally speaks for itself! Since the first one, a series of anime series adaptations and Pokemon movies had been on the fly. And the most recent one is Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution in 2019. What makes this film special? Well, this is a reboot of the first-ever movie. Juxtaposing the two, Mewtwo is clearly the CGI version of the first, but that's just, perhaps, the shallowest difference. Yet, the main nuance lies in the fact that Mewtwo from The First Movie didn't try to destroy the world. He was rather trying to make sense of his existence and his place in the world as a human-made Pokemon. On the other hand, Mewtwo Strikes Back puts emphasis on him developing an army of clones ready to take over the world and kill everyone. Okay, if that didn't register hard, it just made Mewtwo a total villain! This is it, the long wait for a digital copy of the new Pokemon movie is over! Go ahead and watch Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution below!
We can recognize Pokemon as one of the famous, if not the most famous, Japanese media franchises that have evolved from being just a video game into different forms of entertainment. Yet, did you know that Pokemon Day is annually celebrated on February 27? Yes, you read that right! There is such a thing as Pokemon Day! And every year, people commemorate the release of the first-ever Pokemon video game in Japan--the Pokémon Red and Green! And of course, as Pokemon fans like yourself, we thank its creator and designer, Satoshi Tajiri, the child whose hobby later became a worldwide phenomenon.
But what's a Pokemon Day celebration like? Aside from the fact this event is mainly populated by Pokemon fans, the Pokemon Company, in cooperation with over 2500 Gamestop stores, holds a Pokemon Trade and Play event. So, it's gonna be about card games where children, and even those who are kids at heart, can meet up with other kids and play the Pokemon Trading Card Game (for sure you once owned a set of Pokemon Cards, folks!). Pokemon Card collectors flock to Gamestop stores rev up their collections. What else are we expecting? Well, in one of the celebrations in the past, Nintendo held a 5-day festivities that include face painting and giant mascots of Pikachu and Eevee in its flagship store in New York City. Yet, another exciting news to watch out for is the release of Mewtwo: Strikes Back Evolution. A new Pokemon movie is hitting Netflix on February 27, 2020, just in time to celebrate the National Pokemon Day!
