For many of us, Dragon Ball Z has been our rite of passage into the lucrative world of anime. We’ve all followed Goku’s journey as he defended Earth from various villains, starting from when he was younger even until he got married and had sons of his own. Every time he battles his opponents, the fight scenes captivated me and left me daydreaming about being a hero like him, too. Goku is simply the strongest character in the game and the one you’ll probably be playing with most of the time. His three Super Saiyan forms and his attack skills put him on top during the game. He also has the most generous Skill Tree so you’ll be able to level him up nicely.
An active character all throughout the game except in the Buu arc, Vegeta specializes in Ki-Blast attacks. His high stats and Super Saiyan 1 and 2 power-ups make him the best character to play aside from Goku and Gohan. Nonetheless, Vegeta has the best special skill among the playable characters with his Big Bang Attack.
You’ll be playing as Gohan most of the time during the game. His hand-to-hand combat skills paired with his melee skills make it easy for him to finish enemies within a short-range. Gohan’s Ultimate form proves to everyone why he’s the strongest unfused character in DBZ. His power just goes ballistic every time he’s in Ultimate transformation.
Piccolo enjoys enough playtime in the Saiyan arc but diminishes throughout the campaign. He is good against Ki attacks and his Explosion Wave is very useful when the enemies are surrounding you. Despite not being around the whole campaign, his special move called Special Beam Cannon is yours to try.
A visiting character from the future, Future Trunks was never made to stay permanently with the rest. He ranks low on the list because he’s only playable for some scenes. His only real fight is against Mecha Frieza but luckily, he’s available to play post-game.
This powerful character is the result of Goku and Vegeta’s fusion. And like his rare appearance in the manga and anime, Vegito is only playable for a single fight. It’s a shame that you can’t play with this character as much as you want. He’s just there enough for fans to experience how strong Goku and Vegeta combined is.
Gotenks is the fusion between Goten and Trunks. This character is immensely powerful but is only playable for a few scenes. However, he can permanently join the party at the end of the game which makes up for his lack of appearance all throughout the campaign.
