Let's be real, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was kind of a hit or miss for the entire Star Wars franchise. Judging by reviews from different sites like Google, IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes, it seems like some fans weren't completely satisfied with it. The truth is, we can't blame them. Everybody's entitled to their opinion. What we should be concerned about, as fans, is where do we go from here? Originally, George Lucas already had a vision for the franchise's future after Revenge of the Sith. But ever since Disney bought LucasFilm in 2012, they discarded whatever George Lucas had in mind. Even so, the stories of Luke, Han, Leia including their kids continued through the novels and comic books of the Star Wars Expanded Universe (EU).
Unlike the Star Wars movies and related TV series, the EU stories were never really considered as canon. Due to the confusion, Disney retired the old EU after they bought LucasFilm and placed them under the banner of Star Wars 'Legends' books. What that means is that the stories in the Star Wars 'Legends' timeline still existed but it gave way for new tales to be told. For Disney, this gets rid of the burden of having to fit in with what came before. Still, the Legends stories were full of ideas, plotlines, and characters from the old Star Wars Expanded Universe. I'm sure a lot of us would give just about anything to see some of those Star Wars Legends characters have their own canon. To give you an idea of some of the fantastic characters that have been shirked, check out this list!
If there was ever a character that most fans wished was a canon, it's gotta be none other than Mara Jade. She was an Imperial assassin who trained under Darth Sidious was raised to be a Sith apprentice. After Luke Skywalker killed her former masters, she was ordered to take him out. But during her mission, she started to turn towards the light and not only that, she even fell in love with Luke whom she was supposed to assassinate. Mara is a clear example of a well-intentioned Jedi that's bound by her background of darkness.
As it's told in the Legends stories, Han and Leia didn't just have one child, they had three. The other two were actually twins, Jacen and Jaina Solo. Both of them were made out to be the foundation of the new Jedi Order with each one being gifted in the force. As they grew older, they encountered many challenges. One eventually led on the path of good, while the other turned towards the dark side. One of the most tragic climaxes of all the Legends stories involved Jaina striking down her own brother.
The whole Star Wars universe revolves around the never-ending fight between the light and dark side of the force. However, the Sith aren't the only form of evil that threatens the galaxy. In one of the best ever written in Legends was the infamous crime lord and leader of the Black Suns, Prince Xizor. Even though he was never mentioned in the original trilogy, the companion books named him as one of the most influential figures in the galaxy almost equal to the Emperor himself.
Before the Clone Wars even began, a Jedi Knight by the name of Andur Sunrider broke the rules of attachments. Andur was married to Nomi Sunrider and has a daughter named Vima. Unfortunately, he was slain in battle so his wife, Nomi, took up his lightsaber in order to save their daughter. Not long after, Nomi took her husband's place in the Jedi Order. She trained with the best Jedi masters and even became a Grandmaster herself. She'll forever be remembered as one of the greatest Jedi masters who helped bring the Order to greater power.
Sith Lords are often chained to their frail and feeble bodies which drives them insane with paranoia and a thirst for power. Darth Nihilus, on the other hand, doesn't have that problem. Why? That's 'cause he doesn't even have a body in the first place. His body was eaten by a spacial phenomenon that eats planets. As long as his shadow is contained within his armor and mask, he could prove to be a sentient Sith threat to the entire galaxy.
