Think about your favorite cartoon characters... You have probably envisioned someone who is visually appealing and will always triumph over the bad and scary-looking characters. Unfortunately, there will always be a bad or evil character in every cartoon. With that being said, here's a list of the most horrifying cartoon characters from your childhood.
Ursula first came out in Disney's 1989 film The Little Mermaid. This sea witch was vanquished by King Triton and forced to live in a sea cave, where she lures and manipulates merpeople including Ariel, the little mermaid herself. She is bad and does everything by the book, and then she makes sure things go the way she wants them to even if it means turning into a human for a while, which she did.
Chernabog is a demon who first appeared in the 1940 Disney animated feature film Fantasia. This demonic character is based on Slavic mythology of the God of the Night. He is a representation of pure evil, or more like he is evil just for the fun of it. Moreover, he does not possess a dominant personality. In fact, he is considered as the most powerful villain Walt Disney has created.
Rasputin, also known as Grigori Rasputin, is the main antagonist in the 1997 20th Century Fox animated feature film Anastasia. He is an evil megalomaniac sorcerer and the most mystical man in Russia. Interestingly, he is loosely based on the real-life Russian psychic of the same name who had no magic powers.
Cruella De Vil is completely selfish, materialistic and just plain mean. As the main antagonist of the 1961 film 101 Dalmatians, she was voiced by Betty Lou Gerson and played by Glenn Close in the 1996 remake. She is bad for so many reasons but this insane fashionista, at the back of her head, plots to skin 99 Dalmatian puppies to make a fur coat.
The Horned King is a skeletal creature with green, decaying flesh and two gnarled horns. He first appeared as the main antagonist in the 1985 Disney movie The Black Cauldron. However, it is unknown whether the Horned King was undead or living. He can only perform very little magic even though it is implied that he is a sorcerer of some sort. Furthermore, he also appeared in the television shows such as House of Mouse and Gone Goofy.
Mumm-Ra is an undead and mummified demon priest who has a zombie-like appearance and greyish skin with red eyes and jagged teeth. He first appeared in the animated television series ThunderCats. Moreover, he has an unlimited knowledge of evil black magic and sorcery. With that being said, he is able to assume other forms to deceive the ThunderCats on different scenarios. Additionally, he has appeared in an episode of Robot Chicken and South Park.
Hexxus is considered as the dark side of nature itself as he is an evil spirit of destruction embodying everything that is toxic to nature. As the main antagonist in the 1992 20th Century Fox animated feature film FernGully: The Last Rainforest. Hexxus looks like a dripping mound of poisonous sludge in his most basic form, and constantly morphs as he moves.
Judge Claude Frollo, simply known as Frollo, is a fictional character in the 1996 Disney animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He is a ruthless and bigoted judge who after a series of tragic events becomes the reluctant caretaker of the deformed Quasimodo. Moreover, he uses his position in favor of himself and persecutes those he thinks are inferior. This character was voiced by the late Tony Jay.
