Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero film that came out in 2018. It was produced in collaboration between Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, and Marvel. In fact, it was the first-ever animated feature film in the Spider-Man franchise. It's set in multiple alternate universes that are shared through what's called the "Spider-Verse". The story focuses on Miles Morales, a typical young teenager struggling with school, friends. On top of that, he is now the new Spider-Man. He must now train and work with other Spider-Man in other realities in order to stop Kingpin, who threatens to destroy the multiverse. He must master his new-found powers and abilities to fully realize his destiny to become the new protector of his city.
The film had its world premiere at the Regency Village Theater in L.A., on December 1, 2018. Its theatrical release in the United States soon followed a few weeks later on December 14, 2018. It won Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, 46th Annie Awards, and at the 76th Golden Globe Awards. A sequel has already been announced and is set to be released in 2022. It's going to be even bigger and of course, it got people wondering who will appear in the upcoming sequel. We've wondered this as well and so we made a little list about it. Check out our list of some of the most wanted characters that fans want to see in Into The Spider-Verse 2 and let us know what you think.
There were already plans to include cameos from the live-action version of Spider-Man like Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield but it never made it into the film. While it would be great to see either one them in the next Spider-Verse movie, we have to give our hats off to the one true cinematic Spider-Man. The one that really deserves to be in Into the Spider-Verse 2 and that is Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man that first debuted back in 2002.
Despite her name, Spider-Woman is a superhero of her own and has little to do with Peter Parker or Miles Morales in their world. So why, you may ask? Well, there have been rumors that Sony is planning to make a Spider-Women film and they are eyeing Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman to be in it. This is a good chance to introduce her first in Into the Spider-Verse first to set her up and establish her story before the film arrives.
Even before this film introduced us to the Spider-Verse, there was already the Clone Saga in the comics. The Clone Saga was a major story arc in the Marvel Comics that ran from 1994 to 1996 and it involved various clones of Spider-Man. It spawned a whole series of clones and other alternate identities that were frankly, too many to even keep track of. The one that started it all was Ben Reilly the Scarlet Spider. Considering the film deals with multiverses and alternate realities of Spider-Man, it is only right to include sleeveless hoodied Scarlet Spider into the mix.
It has been rumored that Sony is planning to do a Spider-Women film with Spider-Gwen and Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman reportedly in it. Another candidate to be included in the movie is Cindy Moon, also known as Silk. She is a Korean superheroine that was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. As such, she possesses much of the same abilities and superpowers that Peter has including organic web-shooters.
Considering the first Into the Spider-Verse movie featured the pork-based Spider-Ham, we don't really see any reason why Spiders-Man shouldn't be included in the sequel. In fact, if you consider the capricious nature of the film, it should have been included in the first place. For those who don't know, Spiders-Man is the product of an alternate reality where Peter falls in a vat of modified spiders that absorbed his consciousness. This massive hive mind took human form and with Peter's memories, became a superhero called Spiders-Man.
